Runners Den / Fiesta Bowl Half Marathon 5K Finish Line

I’ve never been one for lots of weigh ins, counting calories, or really numbers of any kind. It’s just too easy to get get obsessive about those things.

My goal this time around is to find a happy medium between my pre-pregnancy weight – which was pretty low – and my current weight – which is the very high end of acceptable for me. In the long run, I’m looking for a real lifestyle change – the thing weight loss experts suggest is the key to success. When I was at my lowest weight, I was a bookstore manager, walking 5 miles at top pace throughout the store 6 days a week, not to mention, lifting 45lb magazine boxes on a regular basis.

Now, I’m working from home, blogging, designing, and being a mom. Worse, some of my most productive time is spent working while sipping a delicious caffeinated beverage at some wifi hot spot! So truly, my old habits no longer cut it. I need to figure out how to up my activity and lower my empty-calorie intake.

In the short term, I envision my goal much more simply: I have a pair of size 8 Lucky Brand jeans that I could wear in January but no longer fit. Yeah, I want to wear those again…

How do you envision your goals? What motivates you to keep moving in the right direction?

Excellent motivation post! So hard to just get started. A realistic small goal is what I need. Even going down one size seems so unattainable. Perhaps going back to drinking an 8 oz glass of water every hour and see if I can just maintain that for a week :-)

Great post! I wonder the same thing. I guess for me is wanting my current clothes to fit like they used to. I can still wear them but they are all a little snug. Now to find my happy medium in my destination to get there.

Well, most importantly, you have already taken the first step in attaining your short and long term goals. You have addressed the problem. Your significant change in lifestyle has led you to gain a few lbs, no biggie. We have ALL been there, even elite athletes. If weight loss is the ultimate goal, try documenting your intake for the next week or so. Don’t feel that you need to change anything just yet, just see where you are with your 3 meals a day and extra snacks. Just like budgeting, you’ll want to see where you can “trim the fat” figuratively and literally. Ha.

In tandem with documenting your nutrition, you’ll want to maybe set some fitness specific goals that will in turn get your weight down! Do you love going to classes with other people? Perhaps yoga, kickboxing, spinning? Or do you want to run a 5K? What medium exactly is going to take you to that weight loss goal? The options are endless!
